Cake gone bad...

Updated: Dec 11, 2024

Last week, I had the opportunity to throw a first birthday party for my husband and also celebrate my dad. First time we have two June birthdays.

Sometime in December, I had eaten my sisters cake which turned out to be amazing so I decided to go with the baker.

I had planned a nice get together for my husband with some of our close friends and so there was lots of planning involve. It was already a long day from taking him out while trying to tidy up last minute party activities. I got home around 5pm and the party was slated to start from 6pm. The cake had been delivered and so I decided to take a look at it and it was ugly! 😭😭😭🙆🏾‍♀️🙆🏾‍♀️🙆🏾‍♀️. At that point, I was tired and didn't know how, where, or what to start. The color used was horrible, the font seemed to have been written by someone who was learning. At that point I was just out of words.

I got on IG and messaged the baker and explained my pain and disappointment to which she was very understanding and apologetic. She asked to pick up the cake and have the icing redone and re-delivered which I agreed to.

She did deliver the cake on time as promised and it looked a whole lot better and did not fail to deliver in taste 😋

Daddy‘s Cake:

Party went well and the cake hiccup was forgotten 😁😁😁.

My mum loved the cake so much she decided to order one for my dad’s birthday which was four days after my husbands. Cake was delivered and looked amazing (they got it this time with decoration) and then we cut it and tasted it 🤦🏾‍♀️🙈 (sighhh). One of the flavors didn’t fully cook so yeah… Messaged the baker told her our observations, and again, she was very apologetic ( At this point, I felt her pain and sorrow). This opened us up to get talking and I came to understand that she had one of those long, crazy, upside down days that you just want to end and never seem to. As an entrepreneur, I understood her. At this point, I just told her to do what she thought was best which she promised to send in another cake to make up for the half baked cake.

She did deliver on her promise and she went beyond and over to make up for the bad experiences. I was shocked at the cake she sent completely FREE. 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾

bad experiences

I initially wasn’t going to write anything but I thought about it and decided to go ahead because a lot of entrepreneurs are not applauded or encouraged enough when they are doing well or just in general by customers but are quick

to get a bashing for one mistake or mishap which is used to strike an individual out.

Strobrie is an excellent baker and amazing business woman. Despite how everything turned out ( the late hours, back and forth calls and messages etc ) she handled both situations so well. She didn’t snap or get angry or give an attitude. She didn’t make me feel like she was doing me a favour. Her posture the entire time was apologetic, mature, humble, calm and respectful.

We‘ve all had bad days, some of which we can handle and while others we can’t. But in those times, a little love, kind words of encouragement,

understanding and strength will go a long way. Lets remember that the next time we run into an unpleasant situation where some mishap has happened.

P.S

If you need a cake plug in Abuja, Strobrie is your girl. Her cakes are AMAZING!!! ( If you know me, you know I love GOOD food and don‘t do rubbish recommendations😝.) You can find her link below. Thank me later 😉

As you step out, be a blessing to the people you meet. 🥂 to an amazing week!

Love,

Yika
